Questions, beta feedback, bugs, press enquiries and requests all go to the same place, and a real person reads them.

Try the beta

Every Pro feature is free during the TestFlight beta. To unlock Pro, you need to complete a simulated in-app purchase through Apple's purchase screen. Apple controls this test process in its sandbox environment: no money is exchanged and you will not be charged, even if a price is displayed. These test purchases do not carry over to the App Store version.

TestFlight is open to everyone while we establish that Row Smarter is stable and works well in real use. Only once that is proven will TestFlight access be limited to people who actively contribute to its development.

The TestFlight beta is open on iPad and iPhone. Join it here, then send any feedback to the address above. An App Store release follows, without a promised date.

Common questions

The app says "Not connected"

The app looks for an FTMS rowing machine, a Concept2 PM5 or a WaterRower with SmartRow. Make sure the machine is powered on and not already paired to another app or device, since most only allow one connection at a time. On a WaterRower with SmartRow, pull the handle once to wake the sensor.

Can I try it without a rowing machine?

Yes. While idle, in Settings under Advanced, switch on Demo rower, then close Settings. The input switches immediately; no restart is needed. Free rowing needs no purchase. It replays a real recorded row so you can explore live dashboards and recorded-workout history.

My maximum heart rate looks wrong

Apple Health has no maximum heart rate field, so the app works one out from your recorded heart rate. A faulty reading from a chest strap used to be able to set it too high. The app now ignores isolated spikes, and you can always set the value by hand under Body measurements.
