Which rowing machines work with Row Smarter?
Row Smarter connects over Bluetooth to a WaterRower with SmartRow, a Concept2 PM5, or any rowing machine that follows the FTMS standard. The measurements differ because the machines do not send the same data.
Does Row Smarter work with a WaterRower and SmartRow?
A SmartRow sensor gives Row Smarter live distance, pace, power, stroke rate, stroke count, work per stroke, stroke length and a force curve for each stroke. An optional Bluetooth strap adds heart rate.
This is the connection tested on real rowing hardware.
Does Row Smarter work with a Concept2 PM5?
A Concept2 PM5 can provide live rowing metrics, drag factor, stroke details and heart rate. Supported monitors also provide a force curve. Original PM5 hardware does not provide a force curve.
Hardware testing is still needed. PM5 support follows Concept2's published Bluetooth specification, but Row Smarter has not yet been tested against a real PM5.
Does Row Smarter work with an FTMS rowing machine?
FTMS is the standard Bluetooth Fitness Machine Service. Row Smarter shows distance, pace, power, stroke rate, stroke count and heart rate when the rower sends them. Available measurements vary by machine.
Can an FTMS rowing machine send a force curve?
A standard FTMS rowing connection does not provide a force curve, drive and recovery timing or stroke length. Row Smarter marks those readings as unavailable.
Missing is not zero
If a machine omits a measurement, Row Smarter shows it as unavailable. A real zero remains zero.
What should you choose?
Choose SmartRow or a PM5 with force-curve support when the shape of each stroke matters. Choose any FTMS rower when the core live numbers are enough. A standard Bluetooth heart rate strap can add heart rate on every path.
