Development log
What changed in Row Smarter, and what is happening now. Written by hand when something real changes, not on a schedule. Last updated 6 September 2026.
Racing is paused
Racing is off while the next version is in review with Apple. Everything else works: metrics, the force curve, workouts, plans, history and the pace boat.
When the release is approved, this line will say racing is live, and racing will come back as soon as you update the app. There is no date on it. The review queue is not ours to schedule, and a date we invent here is a date we would have to take back.
In the next release
A large batch of fixes and improvements is finished and waiting on review. There is no list here yet, on purpose. A change is worth writing down when it is in a build you can row with, and the entries below are held to that.
The TestFlight beta is where changes land first. It is free and open.
Fifteen languages, in progress
Row Smarter is being translated into fifteen languages:
- English
- Dutch
- German
- French
- Italian
- Spanish
- Portuguese
- Polish
- Russian
- Ukrainian
- Greek
- Arabic
- Chinese
- Japanese
- Korean
Rowing has its own conventions and they survive translation. A split stays written as 1:52.3 per 500m in every language, because that is how the sport writes it. Distances stay in metres. What changes is the words around the numbers.
This is under way, not finished. When a language ships it gets an entry below.
The log
Translation into fifteen languages started
Row Smarter is being translated into fifteen languages, across six writing systems and including one right-to-left language. Nothing is visible in the app yet. It is a long job and it is under way.
Three rowing guides published
New pages on which machines report which measurements, how to read a force curve, and what else rowers use. Written for anyone who rows, whether or not they use this app.
The beta opened
The TestFlight beta opened to anyone who wants it, on iPad and iPhone. It is free, and it needs no invitation.
Something wrong?
If the app is misbehaving, tell us through support. A specific report about one rowing machine is worth more than a general one, so say which machine and what it did.
